AgriLink is agribusiness' biggest event
Reaching
its first decade, AgriLink remains the all-important event in the local and
international business community. Now on its 11th year, the show continues to
present the widest range of poultry, livestock, fruits, vegetables and flowers,
farm inputs and services. Those in the agribusiness look forward to this event
for the opportunities it offers as well as for the variety of information that
can be obtained from the seminars and other side events.
This year, running simultaneously with AgriLink is FoodLink 2004,
now on its 5th edition. FoodLink is the annual exhibition for food products,
processing and packaging. It provides a host of opportunities for international
food and equipment suppliers to promote their products and services, meet
buyers, and expand their market reach in the food industry. Both events are
scheduled on October 14 - 16, 2004 at the World Trade Center, Metro Manila.
The two events are supported by the Department of Agriculture, 20
major agribusiness/food trade associations and eight government and learning
institutions.
This year, the focus of AgriLink/FoodLink 2004 is Transport: The
Key Link to Agriculture and Food. The high cost of transportation, regardless
of the mode, has added to the burden of the agriculture industry. But since
2002, investments particularly in water transport has been increasing, thus
resulting in higher throughput volumes and ship calls, bigger vessel sizes,
increased use of containers and more efficient port services that shorten
transport time. The government's Strong Nautical Highway program was
implemented to further enhance the efficiency of the transport sector and
hopefully bring down cost.
The opening day of the exhibition on October 14 includes a
keynote speech by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, with a welcome remarks by
Mr. Klaus Schroeder, AgriLink/FoodLink 2004 chairperson. Department of
Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap is also one of the guests of honor. A series
of seminars and product/cooking demonstrations are scheduled during exhibition
period.
